FAM IRVOLL SS 2013:

Norway´s super-creative designer, Fam Irvoll, display a fashion humor that´s beyond imagination. She always makes people in a good spirit, both when they wear them and look at them. On Tuesday 14th of August, she had a mini-show displaying her SS 2013 collection at Alreds Hage in Oslo.

Craziness at any age

The website Side2 Catwalk asked her to describe the collection, and she answered:

- Botox-free cool old people who rocks.

Yes. Point exactly. With her design you can look cool, no matter the age.

Color splash meets cartoons

Fam´s signature is the playful color combinations, special cartoon prints and spicy appliqués. In this colllection, she focused on animals and old people. Other characteristics were dip-tye, lace and distinctive collars. It´s fun and unique!

Women’s rights protesters disrupt opening of a giant pink dollhouse in Berlin on Thursday; the Barbie “Dreamhouse Experience” objectifies women
May 17, 2013

Promoting the doll made by Mattel Inc, the house allows paying visitors to try on Barbie’s clothes, play in her kitchen and have a go on her pink piano. The exhibition will be open until August 25.

A handful of protesters gathered outside the shocking pink house that has been erected in one of central Berlin’s greyest areas.

A topless woman, a member of the Femen protest group, who had the slogan “Life in plastic is not fantastic” scrawled across her chest, set fire to a Barbie doll tied to a mini crucifix.

“There’s too much emphasis on becoming more beautiful and on being pretty and that puts an awful lot of pressure on girls as well as wasting capacities which they could use to simply be happy or for school,” said Stevie Meriel Schmiedel, a founding member of the “Pink Stinks” protest group.

“We’re protesting because Barbie would not be able to survive with her figure and yet she is an idol for many girls and that’s not healthy,” she said.

One placard read: “Dear Barbie - don’t just bake cupcakes, eat them too!”

A male protester in a wig, pink shirt and shimmering skirt held a poster reading: “Do you like me now?”

…I dunno.

Barbie never gave me a “you should look like this” ideal because it was a doll.

Not saying it didn’t happen, but I mean, Barbie is also shown to be like…so many fucking jobs and she’s supposed to be smart and independent and whether she’s dating Ken or not, happy and intelligent.

So…I dunno.

You know, it never occurred to me as a child that I should want to look like Barbie until I was told by feminists that I should, and that that desire is bad. Thank you, radfems, for protecting women from making their own choices, particularly if those choices involve the color pink or makeup.

*sigh*

I never got that vibe from Barbie either. Hell, I had a paleontologist Barbie because I totally wanted to study dinosaurs when I grew up.

There’s nothing evil about choosing traditionally feminine things, which is something I think a lot of people don’t quite get.

I agree, I also never got that vibe from barbie. She was just a doll, nothing more. She could be whatever I wanted her to be and I mostly had fun cutting her hair and dressing her up and making her play with my dinosaurs and other toys..There is nothing about barbie that ever said to be like her visually but she had a lot of occupations and always was smart and stuff and I think kids picked up on that more.

ALSO

barbie is some what irrelevant right now with bratz and monster high. WHO ALSO HAVE COMPLETELY RIDIC BODIES AND WEAR LOTS OF MAKEUP. Id argue to say a bratz doll is even more ridiculous with even more makeup and such, plus they are called bratz..now if anything is problematic its the name of that doll. Also bratz tend to be more sexualized in style

why arent we talking about that? Barbie is pretty harmless.

Yea… I don’t get this one. I dolove me some Barbie

While I do believe that Barbie needs body diversity, she does a fairly good job of covering different skin tones and ethnicities. Barbie has, in her life time, held almost every job imaginable. And she also maintained her femininity while doing so.

Here’s an image that I made about two years ago, that was posted on my old account.

image

I accompanied the image by saying that if Barbie was a real woman, she would have barreled through and completely destroyed gender barriers and norms… And done so while wearing heels. The ultimate embodiment of feminism, in my opinion.

When I was a kid, I would build houses and stores out of boxes and legos and blocks for the Barbies to play in. They would have dinosaurs for pets. They would have real jobs and real lives.

I wanted to have Barbie’s career, though, not Barbie’s body. I’m a short pale size-11 white brunette woman, with brown eyes and a round face. I never had any illusions about “looking” like Barbie.

The only wrong messages she sends in regards to weight, are ones that exclude fat people.

But in all honesty, this is Femen’s protest. Fuck them sincerely.

Reblogging again cause Octopusice said it perfectly
